ABDULLAH HASAN FATANI

Biography of Abdullah Hassan Fattani
Abdullah Hassan Fattani (may God have mercy on him) was one of the first individuals to join the Ministry of Finance in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in his youth, starting around the Hijri years 1376–1377 (corresponding to 1956–1958 AD). He was also one of those who migrated to the city of Riyadh specifically to work at the Ministry of Finance headquarters.

He was the eldest son of Sheikh Hassan Muhammad Nour Fattani. Abdullah Hassan Fattani was born in Makkah Al-Mukarramah in the year 1350 AH (which spanned 1931–1932 AD), in the house of his grandfather, Muhammad bin Ismail Fattani, located in Zuqaq Al-Sogh in Al-Qashashiyah, adjacent to the Holy Mosque (Al-Masjid Al-Haram).

He studied at Al-Falah Schools in Makkah and, after graduation, began his career at the Ministry of Finance branch in Makkah. He later transferred to the Ministry's branch in Jeddah around 1374 AH (which spanned 1954–1955 AD).

Finally, he relocated to the Ministry's headquarters in Riyadh to work in the Financial Resources Department. He steadily progressed in his career, eventually becoming the Head of the Systems Section within the General Revenues Department. He reached the age of retirement on 1 Sha'ban, 1407 AH (corresponding to March 1, 1987 AD).

The Financial Resources Department was considered a crucial and important department, responsible for compiling and monitoring the flow of state revenues from various government and private entities.

According to his son, Yasser, Abdullah Fattani participated in several committees, including some within the Council of Ministers' Experts Body (Hai’at Al-Khubara) and others within the Ministry itself. Due to his active participation and extensive experience—being one of the pioneers in this vital sector and one of the most knowledgeable regarding its objectives and procedures—Mr. Abdullah Fattani received a letter of thanks and appreciation from the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance. He greatly cherished this letter and also earned the trust of the Ministry's staff, led by the Minister, Ibrahim Al-Suqaff.

Abdullah Fattani (may God have mercy on him) was known for his noble character, deep love for his family, siblings, and friends. He was gentle, good-natured, and always sought to do good.

Family Devotion:
He was especially dedicated to his siblings, particularly his younger brother Sami Hassan Fattani and his sisters Khadijah and Aisha, as well as their children. He showed particular care for his nephews, Engineer Adel Amin Fattani and his brother Engineer Talal Fattani. He also maintained strong bonds with his step-siblings in Makkah, who held him in the highest regard, respect, and reverence. He made sure to keep in touch with his uncles and shared a special friendship with his uncle, Mohammed Mohammednour Fattani.

Cherished Friendships:
A deep and intimate friendship, which began in their youth, connected him with his cousin, Sheikh Abdulaziz Abdulghaafar Fattani. Among his peers and close friends were Kamil Mahmoud Fattani and his brother Fadil Mahmoud Fattani, with whom he shared years of professional life, first in Jeddah and later in Riyadh.

Leadership and Loyalty:
Abdullah Fattani (may God have mercy on him) was exceptionally loyal and dedicated to his bachelor friends—young men who had migrated from Makkah, Jeddah, and Taif to live in Riyadh. They trusted him deeply, recognizing his excellent manner and wisdom, and he served as their respected leader, coordinating their affairs. This group included friends like Sadiq Tayeb and Mahmoud Basha.

One of the cornerstones of his close circle was his relative and dearest friend, Abdullah Abdulrasheed Fattani, who had served as a cultural attaché in the Kingdom's embassy in Italy. Upon Abdullah Abdulrasheed Fattani's return from retirement, they remained constant companions until his death. Abdullah Fattani remained faithful to his friend's memory, looking after his sons, Hatem and his brother Dr. Rashed. He maintained their friendship, frequently meeting with them and gathering their mutual close friends and relatives.

Extended Family Ties:
Abdullah maintained a very close relationship with his wife's family. One of his most cherished friends was his in-law, Mr. Zeini Hussein Jiffry, who was the maternal uncle of his children.

His Family Life:
God blessed him with a marriage to a woman from a distinguished and reputable family. Her father, Sheikh Hussein Jiffry, was one of Jeddah's prominent figures. Their marriage was blessed with two sons, Maher and Yasser, whom he raised well, bringing joy, vitality, and happiness into their lives

Abdullah Hassan Fatani (May God Have Mercy on Him): Hobbies and Interests
Abdullah Hassan Fatani's (May God have mercy on him) leisure interests included a great love for travel. He received a special invitation from his friend, Abdullah Abdul Rashid Fatani, who was working as the Cultural Attaché at the Saudi Embassy in Italy. Mr. Fatani traveled to Italy for a private visit, where his friend hosted him generously and took him on tours through several European countries.

He also enjoyed spending his summer vacations with his family in destinations such as Alexandria, Cairo, Beirut, and Turkey. Furthermore, he established a private residence in Jeddah for spending Eid al-Fitr holidays and various other summer breaks. These stays often served dual purposes: for medical treatment and to meet with his brothers, most of whom lived in Jeddah and Mecca.

Another major interest was property management for others. He took on the responsibility of managing the properties of his friend, Abdullah Abdul Rashid Fatani, while the latter was serving as the Cultural Attaché in Rome, Italy. He also managed the properties of his uncle's family, Muhammad Muhammad Nour Fatani. To facilitate this, he established a company and hired skilled labor for maintenance and contracting work, focusing on the management, development, and upkeep of properties and facilities. Demonstrating his skill, he successfully converted a prefabricated villa, which the state granted him at a subsidized price, into a three-story apartment building. He rented out two floors and resided on the top floor.

He also had an interest in poetry, writing verse dedicated to his friend Abdulaziz Abdul Ghaffar Fatani, as well as composing religious poetry and divine invocations (Munajat Rabbaniya).

Passing and Legacy
Abdullah Hassan Fatani (May God have mercy on him) enjoyed good health until he passed away in Riyadh on 28/8/1443 AH (corresponding to the Gregorian date). He succumbed to cancer, having also suffered from arteriosclerosis (narrowing of the arteries), at the age of approximately 93. He was buried in Riyadh, concluding a life full of struggle, vitality, and the spreading of love among his family and friends.

May God have mercy on you, Abu Maher. You were a wonderful friend and loved by many of your relatives and cousins. May God grant you entry to the gardens of eternal bliss and gather us with you at the basin of our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), where you will drink a pleasant draught with a pure and blessed spirit.

Sincerely,
Kamel Mahmoud Fatani
